I often talk with my friends and family about the many uses of Elderberry Syrup, I thought I would share what I know with you!
I have gotten in the habit of making my own Elderberry Syrup for medicinal purposes. As well as part of our diet!
When I make Elderberry Syrup I use as local a honey as I can find. Local honey is amazing for allergies by itself. We will talk about the benefits of local honey on another post soon.
We use Elderberry Syrup for:
Cold and Flu Relief
Allergy Prevention
Immunity Boosting
Extra Flavor for Tea (hot and cold)
Pancake Syrup
Salad Dressing
These are just the few things we have played with. I have a million recipes that include elderberries and their syrup and as we try them I will share them with with you.
Just some Facts:
Elderberries contain natural substances called flavonoids. Flavonoids are a group of plant metabolites thought to provide health benefits through cell signalling pathways and antioxidant effects. These molecules are found in a variety of fruits and vegetables. They often help reduce swelling, fight inflammation, and boost the immune system.
There is no standard dose of elderberry. For Flu, some studies have used 1 tablespoon of an elderberry syrup extract four times a day. I personally Have taken up to 6 Tablespoons a day. Ask your health care provider for advice.
It is delicious!
For my local friends and family I always have Elderberry Syrup available to sell, I am still looking into shipping it out of the area and will update as soon as I get it figured out.
I will post my recipe in an upcoming post for those of you interested in making your own.
